Project Overview

Terravita is a hypothetical herbal tea grow kit that invites users to reconnect with nature by cultivating their own moments of tranquility. The initial kit offers a timeless ritual of growing and steeping tea, featuring the calming embrace of chamomile and the soothing whispers of lemon balm. This project enabled me to explore the creation of a comprehensive packaged kit, learning how to design a complex dieline, select appropriate materials, and produce a display-quality prototype.

Defining the Brand

The project brief tasked us with creating a gift set containing 3-4 items. From the outset, I was drawn to the realm of gardening. To inform my design, I researched leading brands in this category, analyzing their unique offerings by placing them on a competitive matrix and conducting audits of their visual identities and product lines.
I then decided to create a tea grow kit and developed the brand’s attributes and main keywords to guide the product's look and feel. Additionally, I created a persona based on my target audience to ensure a user-centered approach.

The Design Exploration

I began by exploring logo variations and design elements that would convey a sense of ease and vibrancy. I decided on an illustrative duochromatic approach, blending organic shapes with a clean typographic hierarchy. This design expresses vitality and simplicity, enhancing the overall gardening experience.

Prototyping the Kit

I developed various physical prototypes, testing the size, shape, and color combinations of the design. I chose a simple rectangular box that opens like a gift set, emphasizing the ritualistic qualities of the cultivation process.

The Final Prototype

For the final prototype, I refined the dieline and selected colors representing the flowers to be cultivated: yellow for chamomile and green for lemon balm. I also refined the illustrations to provide clarity and enhance the written content on the packaging. I printed the artwork using an inkjet printer and wrapped it around the prototype's cardboard box. To capture the vibrant personality of the kit, I photographed it outdoors in a sunny setting, surrounded by flowers and soil.
